Dateline Brussels, 6:20 p.m. March 17th.  I’ve just got back from the Brussels launch of the Tax Payers’ Alliance’s new book “The Great European Rip-Off: How the corrupt, wasteful EU is Taking Control of our lives”.  (See www.taxpayersalliance.com).  And though it says one or two disobliging things about MEPs, I recommend it.

The event was to have been hosted by Chris Heaton-Harris, but his train was late so Syed Kamall stood in.  The main finding of the book — that on average the EU costs every one of its “citizens” around £2000 a year — forms the basis of my current advertising campaign on the slogan “The EU: It’ll have the Shirt off your Back” (see my web-site at www.rogerhelmer.com).  £2000 each.  That’s about £4,700 for the average household.

The Tax Payers’ Alliance goes from strength to strength, and they were out in force.  Chief Executive Matthew Elliott, who used to work in the European parliament.  Co-author David Craig.  Susan Squires.  Sara Rainwater, formerly editor of the European Journal.  Great to see them all out in Brussels.

“The Great European Rip-Off”, by Matthew Elliot and David Craig, is published in paper-back by Random House at £8:99.  Worth a place on your reading list.

  1. Lovely to see you with two persons. The one in the middle looks to me like a female person and the one on the right could be a male person.
I think your letter to Mr Poettering was quite apposite therefore!
