SUPERB, ROGER HELMER AT HIS BEST! A hard act to follow. Happy retirement Roger.

  2. Shieldsman says:

How many people know or even care that the Strasbourg Parliament exists. That is the greater absurdity and failure of the EU.

  3. mike5262015 says:

Spot on Roger. Do you feel cleansed by taking the path to retirement, out of the EU ?

  4. Rosie says:

Sir, whilst nobody deserves retirement more than you after your years of service to Britain, you will be sorely missed. We miss you already! What a cracking speech to end on! Well said, that man.

  5. Terry Knight says:

Totally agree with Rosie’s comment. It with be sad to see the departure of a real gentleman from the political scene – such a contrast to recent disgraceful rabble-rousing speeches from some of those in British politics who are now in the limelight!

  6. David says:

I would like to second all the above comments a great retirement to you Roger, you,ve been brilliant

  7. barrymx5 says:

Well said Roger. The truth is, and I speak as a former UK trade negotiators, the EU negotiators have a much harder job than the UK ones. We can do without a deal – in fact that is my preferred outcome. The EU has not only to satisfy conflicting views of Council, Commission and Parliament but 27 Countries. Even the basic priorities are divisive: is the aim to punish UK to avoid further defections or to save jobs in EU countries? Either way we win.

  8. PJ says:

Can’t fault a word of that Roger, very well said my friend. I hope we can meet up for a coffee sometime if you are in Leicester 😉

  9. Harry Royle says:

    Dear Roger

Throughout your time as an MEP and with your daily posts during last year’s Referendum I have totally impressed with your untiring campaigning for the cause of Brexit. My very best wishes to you and yours for your retirement – you will be very much missed!

  10. Jane Davies says:

A good ending to your time in the EU parliament Roger. I hope others will pick up where you have left off and tell the truth about how absurd this whole thing is. I think I read somewhere that the moving location fiasco costs 100 million a year? Crazy waste of taxpayers hard earned. But then it is a forever filling pot of dosh for these people to waste, which is about the only thing they are good at.
Enjoy your retirement Roger, I’m still fighting to unfreeze the state pensions for 4% of British seniors and will continue to do so when move back to the UK hopefully next year. One needs to have a cause/scandal to fight for to keep the old grey cells active, maybe you would care to join us in our fight for justice (?) after all it was your article on the frozen pension scandal they brought me to your blog.

    Good luck and stay healthy…….

Great speech , Roger . What a great pity you are retiring from the fray . I , and thousands more , will miss the cogent arguments you put before the self-serving European clique . I always enjoyed your and Nigel’s put downs of these European pompous peacocks .
Thanks for everything you’ve done .

Excellent speech Roger – I’d like to second all of the above. Can’t help thinking your departure is premature. Your speech demonstrates all the reasons. I’ll be amazed if you can resist getting embroiled in the future political scene in some way. A massive thank you for your massive contribution – so far !?

  13. catweazle666 says:

    Excellent, Roger.
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of Great Britain, and I hope you enjoy your ‘retirement” as much as I’m enjoying mine!

  14. Ex-expat Colin says:

Thank you for saying it as it is for so long…..not that many of them get it.

  15. KennieD says:

    Roger,
I can but agree wholeheartedly with all the above comments. My sincerest thanks for all you have done, and good luck, Best Wishes for your retirement.
